slot

Definition

Castle or palace. It covers both historic fortresses and royal residences, for example Kronborg at Helsingør, which overlooks the narrow strait to Sweden. On maps a slot shows with a castle icon, and many are surrounded by moats, parks or museums with seasonal opening hours. Check hours before a trip, since some are closed on certain weekdays or in winter. See also: torv, borg, and the guide The Regions of Denmark: A Map-First Overview.
