H
havn
Definition
Harbour or port. København, the Danish name for Copenhagen, means merchants' harbour, and Nyhavn in the city means new harbour. On maps an anchor symbol or a -havn ending marks a place where fishing boats, yachts or ferries land. Harbours are also the gateways to small islands, so a ferry timetable usually lists havn names rather than street addresses.
