Question hub
Can I take a bicycle on a train or ferry?
The answer
Often yes, but the rules vary by operator, type of train and season, and a reservation or separate bicycle ticket may be needed. Busy services, especially in summer and during commuter hours, may limit or refuse bicycles. Ferries to the islands generally accept them, which makes island hopping by bike practical. Check the operator's current conditions before you rely on a train or ferry for a long ride, and carry a plan B such as a nearby station or bus.
