V
vig
Definition
A bay or cove along the coast, and a common ending in coastal place names, as in Ebeltoft Vig on the Djursland coast. A vig is usually smaller and more open than a fjord, which tends to be long and narrow. On a map it shows as a curved indentation in the shoreline, often with a small harbour or a beach at the head. Sheltered viger are popular for family swimming and small boats. See also: fjord, odde, havn, and the guide Danish Coastlines: Dunes, Fjords, Cliffs and Beaches.
