T

torv

Definition

A town square or market place. Many Danish towns centre on a torv, and Copenhagen has Gammeltorv and Nytorv, the old and new squares near the main pedestrian street. Squares host markets, outdoor seating and sometimes the town hall, so they are a good first point for orientation on foot. On a map a torv appears as a small open space inside the street grid.
