Definition

The plural of ø, meaning islands. Island groups are often named with the related word øhav, the sea of islands, as in Det Sydfynske Øhav, the South Funen Archipelago. There Ærø, Tåsinge and Langeland lie close enough for island-hopping by bicycle or small boat. When a sign or map label says øer, expect several islands, mixed connections and ferries that depend on season and wind.
