M

mose

Definition

A bog or marsh, written mose. It marks wet, low-lying ground where peat has formed, such as Lille Vildmose in North Jutland, a large raised bog. Moser often have their own wildlife rules and can be soft underfoot, so follow boardwalks and marked trails. On a map the word usually comes with a marsh symbol, and a route that looks short across a mose may be impassable after rain. See also: hede, sø, and the guide How to Read a Map of Denmark.
