K
klit
Definition
A sand dune, or the dune landscape as a whole. The western coast of Jutland is lined with dunes shaped by the North Sea wind, and Klitmøller in Thy carries the word in its name and is known for surfing. Dunes are fragile and often protect farmland and roads behind them, so walkers are asked to stay on marked paths. On maps a klit appears as a dotted or shaded strip behind the beach.
